You must follow the right process to weld the replacement panels on the body of a car of any type and model for optimal performance. Whether you want to fit holden replacement panels or any other, typically the process to ensure safety and functionality remains almost the same.

The first thing that you should consider is repairs. Yes, repairs! Do not be surprised about it because it is very important to do the necessary repairs to the panel before you weld it on or even start removing and replacing any part from it. This may seem to be confusing to you at first but if you think a bit more closely, it will be very clear to you.

For example, consider you are replacing quarter panels or a door skin. It is very tempting to quickly remove the door from the car and start taking out the handle, the glass and anything else that may be on it. This is the worst approach to remove or replace the door skin. This will eventually lead to a lot of problems in the process.

Getting the necessary things repaired in the holden replacement panels before welding will realign the panel, the doors and other things.

Steps to Follow

When you have got everything repaired it is time to weld the holden replacement panels. For this, you will need to follow a specific process.

  1. First, you will need to gather all the MIG welding equipment. You are requested to use a MIG welder as that will provide the required amount of power to weld through the heavy steel the cars are made of.

  2. Second, make sure that you have sufficient amount of welding wire and gas so that you do not have to stop your work in between arranging for these from the nearest welding supply store.

  3. In addition to that, make sure that the clamps and a hand grinder are within your reach as you will need both of these quite frequently.

  4. Next, you will need to ‘size’ the holden replacement panels so that it fits on the existing frame of the car perfectly. This will eliminate any overlapping. Trim the new panel if it is oversize.

Now, you will need to remove the rusted area from the car. Welding a new panel on rust will only allow it to spread quickly on to the new panel. Lastly, make sure that when you remove the old panel you draw a line 1/2 inch below the earlier line to have enough metal to weld the new panel.

Test Fit All Parts

Make sure that you test all the parts that are needed to be fitted on the panel before you fit it. This is a crucial part that will ensure that you are accurate in your measurement to get a snug fit and better welding of the holden replacement panels.

  1. Clamp a replacement panel on top of the existing panel

  2. Check for the area that is covered

  3. Compare the new areas and parts with the existing panel.

Cut through both the panels at once so that you get an exact measurement that will provide a consistent butt joint when you weld along.

While cutting and welding, work on only one section at one time. This will prevent the holden replacement panels from tilting. Since you may not have the jigs used in a car manufacturing factory to maintain panel alignment, working on one section of the panel at a time is the best approach.

Lastly and most importantly, make sure that you are safe to weld. Place the car on a solid concrete surface and put the jack stands at the corners of the frame.
